Trees make oxygen using carbon dioxide (CO2) through a process called photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and water from the soil. They use energy from sunlight to convert these into glucose, which they use as food, and release oxygen as a byproduct.
This process can be broken down into two main steps:
Light-dependent reactions: Light energy captured by chloroplasts in the thylakoid membrane of the plant is stored as ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
Calvin cycle: ATP moves to the stroma, another part of the plant cell, where it creates glucose and releases oxygen.
Trees are essential for producing oxygen and removing CO2 from the atmosphere, which helps mitigate the effects of climate change.
Trees + CO2 = Oxygen. Oxygen is Needed for Life, isn't it?
